A ridge-like ionization front of gas within the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus (NGC 7000). The object is located at a distance of approximately 1,500 light-years. The region shown spans about 30 light-years from edge to edge. Radiation pressure from massive stars drives the gas forward while simultaneously ionizing it, causing it to glow.
This two-panel mosaic was captured from Oulu using a 25 cm reflector telescope, with a total exposure time of approximately 15 hours.
